We are fully Ofsted registered, with both settings having been awarded a ‘Good’ rating overall at their first inspections in May 2009 for Before and After School, and November 2009 for the Nursery. Young Discoverers was awarded ‘Highly Commended’ in the Nursery World Awards 2009 for its Business Development category, recognising the fantastic achievement of providing this new facility. Director Ruth Newton was also a finalist in the Forward Ladies Women in Business Awards 2011 in their Innovation category.
Providing inspiration for creative minds, our activities are tailored to various age-groups that give them everything they need to ensure that you can leave them in total peace of mind. Our friendly staff are welcoming and offer genuine care for your child taking the time to listen to their individual needs and also those of parents.
Through this site we aim to give you some insights into the philosophy we adopt to provide the very best for your child.
Day-Care (Twinkle Stars, Shooting Stars and Pre School)
Our Children’s Day Nursery is available for children aged from 3 months to 5 years old, and is located at Escrick Business Park just off the A19 trunk road running between York and Selby. Opening hours are from 7.30am to 6.15pm Monday to Friday, 51 weeks a year(We just close the week between Christmas and New Year).
Our goal is to provide an amazing environment for the children to learn and play in. The Nursery has been specifically designed for the needs of children, and we have also invested in some fantastic toys and equipment. We have special ‘little people’ toilets, a kitchen to provide freshly cooked lunches and other meals, a lovely enclosed garden with our very own fruit and vegetable patch, as well some stimulating outdoor areas, such as woodlands, a farm and a walk to the cycle track, all in the immediate locality.
Our Twinkle Stars Room is the perfect environment for our babies aged from 3 months until they are two. We have lots of stimulating light, sound and texture for them to explore under the care of our dedicated team who have all undertaken additional baby room training in 2013.
Once children turn two, they have the opportunity to explore our Shooting StarsRoom, providing very specific activities for this key developmental age group. Our experienced staff work hard to provide ‘next steps’ for your child here, and continue their learning journey to an exciting new stage. Working in small, but meaningful group sizes, we celebrate the many achievements that come about when you are two.
At the stage that your child is ready, we have exciting challenges in store for them in our Pre School Room. In preparation for school our children grow their confidence and skills to allow them to discover a whole new dimension to the world. We encourage outdoor activities every step of the way, and the Pre School Room also benefits from free flow in and out of the garden area.
Placing your child in our care
We understand that choosing the right childcare is a huge decision so we provide the best possible environment for children. Come and visit us as many times as you and your child like for a Stay and Play session before making this decision, or perhaps join us for lunch, and see how we enjoy this very sociable part of our day. Stay and Play sessions enable you to see how comfortable your child is in the environment, and how they interact with the other children and staff. Helping your child get settled-in is very much our priority. To help us achieve this we conduct home visits with your child’s allocated key person to better understand how they like to play, and what their interests are. This also provides a friendly recognizable face for your child for when they are left with us for the first time, and proves so valuable for your child, our staff and you in building the relationship we have with each other.
We welcome you to drop by to the Nursery or the Before and After School Club at any time during our opening hours to register your child or to visit and ask us any questions that you may have. The only time we would like to know in advance that you are coming is lunch time, so that we can include you in our numbers and provide you with a meal. Registrations are subject to availability.
“We give your child an experience that enhances their day and provides new opportunities for discovery.”
