Zac’s Club Escrick
Our Breakfast & After School Club at Escrick was our very first Young Discoverers setting, and opened on 4th November 2008 with just 4 children, 2 of whom were the Director’s own children. It has been fabulous to see the Club grow from there to having around 34 children on their busiest session each week.
Our relationship with the school has also developed over this time, and we are extremely proud to be working in partnership to ensure that the facility meets the needs of parents, teachers, governors, and most importantly the children themselves.
Andrew Newton is Manager at the Club, and has undertaken this role since 2011. He holds a Level 3 Diploma from the Children and Young People’s Workforce, which he undertook whilst working for Young Discoverers at our Nursery. The latest Ofsted report describes him as “an excellent role model and key person”, and that “he leads the staff team well, creating a warm and welcoming environment”.
Andrew works with Erika Kirsch-Maskill, Jane Young, Rachel Cameron and Lauren Moughan as his team of Playworkers. Erika has a wealth of experience working with children and young people and is currently working to complete her level Early Years Educator qualification whilst working with us at both our Escrick and Riccall Clubs. Jane has been at the Club since 2010, gained her level 3 Childcare qualification whilst working for Young Discoverers, and has developed a strong relationship with the children. Rachel works in the Club whilst studying for her Early Years Educator qualification at York College, and has great ideas for play and learning. We first got to know her when she was a student on placement at Young Discoverers Nursery, where she also works as a Relief Practitioner covering occasional shifts there. She is seeking to further her studies to Foundation Degree level at York College. Lauren is our newest recruit and is currently studying for her Early Years Educator qualification at York College whilst also on student placement at the Nursery.
All staff hold current Paediatric First Aid Certificates, and Food Safety Certificates, and also undertake other regular trainings relevant to the role including the Safeguarding of Children.
The setting operates 7.30am -9.00am each morning and 3.15pm -6.15pm each afternoon during term time.
