Breakfast Session
A day in the life of Oliver aged 10
This morning dad dropped me off at 7.30. It’s a bit earlier than normal, but he had a meeting to go to. It was really good because there was just Samuel, my best friend and me to start with. We had a play on connect 4 as some of the other children started to arrive, and then we helped our Play Worker set out the things for breakfast. I was in charge of giving everyone a plate. We all sat round the table and had cereal, toast and milk or fruit juice to drink. I like Weetabix. You can have it warm if you like, but I only have it that way on cold days. Amy spilt her drink today, but she is only 6, and our Play Worker helped her clear it up. After breakfast some of the other children helped clear things away, but we went off to play as we had helped set things out. It seemed to go really quickly today, and soon it was time for school to start.
After School Session
A day in the life of Sarah aged 7
We had PE this afternoon, so I was ready for a sit down when I got to Young Discoverers. Faye and I did a bit of homework first. I got stuck on a couple of things, but my Playworker helped me to find the answer, and it helped that we all sat together to do it. Later on I joined in the games that some of the others were playing. It was raining today, so we played indoor games, but we go outside a lot when it isn’t raining. We made a big den with some cardboard, and used some of the art materials to decorate it. Matthew drew pirates on his bit, but I did butterflies. At half past four we all had a snack. I had some slices of apple and a piece of cheese, but I could have had strawberries, or an oat biscuit, or something else. We sometimes get cake, but only when it’s someone’s birthday. After snacks, I made a lovely card for my sister for her birthday from the materials we had in the craft box. I’m not at Young Discoverers after school tomorrow, but I’m looking forward to Thursday when I’m back because I think we’re doing some baking then.
Shooting Stars
A day in the life of Georgia aged 3
When Mummy brought me in this morning I was really pleased because my Key Worker was back from her holidays and there to greet me. We played together, and as some of the other children arrived they joined in with us looking at the flash cards. Then we had some breakfast. I really like breakfast as we all sit together. Some children don’t come until later, but I like having breakfast with my friends. After breakfast we did salt dough. I made a cat. It didn’t look very much like one to me, but my key worker said cats are difficult, and I’d done really well. I decided to make a house instead, and that looked much better. Later on after snacks we did some singing. Singing is my favourite thing, and I like looking at the pictures in the books that go with the songs. I know nearly all of the actions too. We had time for a play outside before lunch, and got the parachute out to play with. It’s really bright and colourful, and I love it when you get to hide underneath. Lunch was good. We had creamy fish pie with a yummy sweet potato topping and some broccoli. Alfie didn’t eat his fish, but his key worker said they would make him big and strong, so we all gave him a clap when he tried some. We had fruity flapjack for pudding. Yummy!
After lunch some of us had a rest on the mats, while the rest of us had quiet time on the bean bags looking at books. Once everyone was awake we went outside again. I played in the wendy house, and we took some teddies around in the push chair and made them a pretend picnic. For afternoon snack I had some raisins, and then we did some painting. Soon it was time for tea, and we had homemade savoury muffins with bits of bacon in them and coleslaw, and yoghurt for pudding. I played with the jigsaws until Mummy came and picked me up to go home.
Twinkle Stars
A day in the life of Zane, aged 10 months
I love the baby room as it’s so light and airy, and you can see the trees swinging in the wind outside. When Daddy brought me in the this morning I was put in my high chair ready for breakfast. I like to try and feed myself, but throw my spoon on the floor just to be cheeky sometimes. My keyworker knows what I’m up to, but helps me all the same. We had a little music time after breakfast and I got some bells to shake which was great fun. Me and some of my friends needed a morning nap, but I have a lovely comfy cot to sleep in. When I woke up I had my milk to drink, and then we had messy play time. I made a lovely picture for Grandma of my footprint. I think my feet are getting bigger! We all had lunch together at 12.00. Jonathan managed to throw his spoon much further than me, but we both got a big ‘No’, so decided it might be best to stop that game. After lunch we had a play on the floor with some of the toys, and then it was time for my afternoon nap. I sleep really well at nursery. When I woke up I had some time trying to stand up and move around the furniture. Everyone seemed very pleased with my efforts. Just wait until I show mum. Can’t wait until I learn to walk. We had a look at some books before tea time. Mine made a great squeaky noise when you pressed it. After tea we went in the garden for a bit, and played out there. Mummy saw me playing with the sand when she came to pick me up. I gave her my best smile.
