I work in a Childcare environment and know the importance of leaving your child in someone else’s care. On a visit to Young Discoverers I, with my daughter was immediately welcomed. I must say I loved that no appointment was necessary, the staff and children were happy and not phased by the drop in visit. The environment has a nice family feel to it, a good buzz in the atmosphere, with the children as well as the staff. My daughter loves her time in nursery, anyone can see it from the moment she is dropped off in the morning. I get my wave goodbye, a kiss and a love. Priceless. I then go off to work happy, knowing she is in excellent care. My daughter has always been healthy so it came as quite a shock the day she started having a Febrile Convulsion, she was in my care at the time. Since her first episode she’s had five more with three ending up staying in hospital for observation. As you can imagine a worrying time for my husband and I. The support from the staff at Young Discoverers has been invaluable and as parents we cant thank them enough. I approached them and suggested we put together a medical care plan. Kathy the Nursery Manager took the time to listen to me. I explained how a Febrile Convulsion starts with my child, and the care she needs before ,recognising early signs, as well as during and after. I was over whelmed on my return to find what Kathy had done. I was presented with a thorough medical care plan for her. Kathy had definitely listened to me and my concerns and wrote everything down to the detail. Together with a list of the staff names ready for them to sign once they had read and understood what procedures to follow. I still leave the Nursery knowing she is in excellent care and more so now I’m confident that if she has a Febrile Convulsion whilst there she is in safe hands, 100%. Keep up the good work Young Discoverers.

My son had been attending a nursery in Oxfordshire for 6 months when my husband was relocated toYorkshire with work. At the time I was living in the South having to sell our house as well as job hunt and find another nursery for my son, all of which were fairly stressful tasks for a new mother! When I came up toYorkshire to house hunt I also visited all the nurseries in the Selby/York area. Upon walking into Young Discoverers nursery I instantly had a “good feeling” about the place. All the staff were very welcoming and answered all my questions and put my mind at ease. They offered to do a home visit and for my son to have as many settling in sessions as he would need.

After reviewing all the nurseries in the area I made the choice to send my son to Young Discoverers. The main reason why I chose the nursery was because the staff were so friendly and personable and I could go to work each day knowing that my son would be happy and well looked after.

The building was so bright and airy and that there was a separate room for the under and over 2′s. I also welcomed the fact that all the meals were home cooked, and also that the meal times were at sensible times, particularly tea time which is at 5pm meaning that I don’t have to cook my son a meal when I got back from work. The majority of nurseries I visited did “tea” at 3pm meaning that you’d have to cook a further meal for your child when you get them home.

When the time came to moving house and transferring my son to Young Discoverers I was obviously a bit anxious, but there was no need for me to feel this way as he settled in really well. My son was allocated a key worker who made sure he was not effected by such a big change in his life (house & nursery move) and endeavoured to stick as close to his routine as possible.

The team at YD get the children involved in lots of interesting and fun activities which are all vital to their learning and development. They encourage outdoor play, whatever the weather, which is great for my son who is a real outdoors boy!! The staff are attentive to each child’s individual needs and are happy to listen and give advice regarding any parental concerns both at home and at nursery.

My son has been at YD for about 18months now and he absolutely loves it and I am so glad I chose it for his childcare. I have recently given birth to my daughter and although she is only 6 weeks old she already has her name down for a place at YD!

Childcare Vouchers

Childcare vouchers are available from a range of suppliers such as Accor, Busy Bees, Kids Unlimited. Your employer may already be registered with their preferred supplier, so please ask them for details. We are registered with most of the major providers already, but if your company has a self administered scheme we’d be more than happy to join it.  If your employer is not currently registered with a Childcare Voucher provider they are able to do so, and the links section of our website provides some useful contacts. If you are a working parent paying for approved childcare, childcare vouchers allow payment tax free and are exempt from National Insurance contributions.

There is a potential saving of up to £1,196 less tax payments each year per parent, rather than per child. The vouchers are provided in either paper or electronic form, and deducted from your pay. Young Discoverers takes all types of childcare vouchers to allow parents to benefit from the scheme, and further details are provided on request.

Childcare Vouchers can be used in conjunction with or instead of claiming child tax credit, and further advice on support on the best option according to your individual circumstances can be obtained by phoning the Tax Credits Helpline on 0845 300 3900 or from www.hmrc.gov.uk/childcare.

Child Tax Credits

Child Tax Credits are the child care element of Working Tax Credit, and available for parents using eligible child care providers (Young Discoverers is registering to be eligible). Eligibility for receiving child tax credits is dependent on your personal circumstances, but currently, the help will cover up to 70% of eligible child care costs up to a maximum of £175 per week, for families who pay child care for one child, and £300 per week for families who pay child care for two children or more.

Child tax credits can be claimed in conjunction with or instead of using childcare vouchers, and further advice on support on the best option according to your individual circumstances can be obtained by phoning the Tax Credits Helpline on 0845 300 3900 or from www.hmrc.gov.uk/childcare.
