Relief Nursery Practitioner
We are continually looking for Relief Nursery Practitioners to work on a part time basis to support the team with sickness, holiday or other absence cover at our Nursery based at Escrick Business Park. The role would ideally suit a Practitioner with an interest in gaining specific experience with children across the age group of 3 months through to 5 years. It may be that you already have a part time job, studies or other commitments that mean you would enjoy the opportunity to work with us on a more occasional basis, as and when needed by the business. The Nursery is open 52 weeks a year with the exception of bank holidays and we will be able to offer a variety of shifts between the hours of 7.30am and 6.15pm Monday to Friday. Whilst it may be an advantage to be a car driver, our setting is on a regular bus route with buses between York and Selby every 15 minutes. We are ideally seeking candidates that are qualified to level 3 in a childcare qualification, with a genuine desire and passion to influence children’s learning, and can demonstrate the difference they can make to children, however we would also welcome applications from unqualified, or training individuals wishing to develop their skills in Childcare as part of their career progression. You must be able to work as part of a team, and be flexible in your approach. Communicating effectively at all levels is also a key part of the role. Young Discoverers also offers childcare places at a discounted rate, as well as a Company Pension Scheme and a range of other Employee Benefits.
At Young Discoverers we aim to provide the highest quality of care and education for all the children in our setting. All of our settings are rated by Ofsted as “Good” and it is our aim to continue to develop and reach an “Outstanding “grade in the future. We engender an atmosphere where children and their families are respected and valued and all children are encouraged to investigate, explore, have fun and flourish. We expect our Practitioners to hold a thorough understanding of the principals of the EYFS and Ofsted regulations, be competent in recording, assessing and planning for the development of the children, and be confident in working in close partnership with parents and other professionals. Our Practitioners are enthusiastic, caring, respectful, professional and supportive and undertake additional and continual learning in order to extend their skills base, and keep up to date with modern practice. Your role would be to support the team by covering absence across the Nursery where needed. This invariably means you will be called upon at busy times, and must have a hands on approach, with a calming manner. You will also provide critical support, and very often, Relief Practitioners have gone on to be our core team of the future.
To support our existing team members working with children aged between 3 months and 5 years. To seek guidance from management and colleagues alike to provide the very best level of care for all of our children through providing relief cover. Ensure that you can contribute ideas for learning and planning, and use initiative, including making entries in children’s learning journeys if necessary. You will be expected to undertake additional duties or whatever it takes to ensure the smooth running of the business and the continuity of care for all children. You will ensure the safety and well being of all children in your care, and report concerns to your line manager. Communicating with colleagues, parents and other agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for children in our care is also key. You will assist in planning next steps for development, work well with management and other colleagues in engendering a positive and welcoming atmosphere for everyone in the nursery, and promote our ethos.
In view of working with children, an enhanced DBS check is required, you must not therefore have any convictions or cautions previous or current, that are relevant when working with children. The new DBS check also requires the candidate to register for the live updates on the system. Suitable experience of working with children is essential. Pride in your work, and the ability to work as part of a dedicated team are also key. You must be committed to undertake any other necessary training to undertake your duties.
Level 3 qualification in a childcare discipline, or the desire to extend studies further. (although not essential)
Basic ICT skills and knowledge of online learning journeys.
