Little Explorers Pre- School Room
Our Pre-School room is the final stage in your child’s journey through the Young Discoverers experience. The Pre- School Room consists of separate zones within the main room, where imaginative play within the home corner can thrive, an art and creative zone where children can have the freedom to explore different opportunities based on their interests. A baking zone where children can learn to develop their Culinary skills, a soft zone where children can take a moment or meet up for a chat with friends. Our zones are extremely versatile and are rotated frequently, they are often turned into fantastic child lead zones inspired by the children themselves. We also have free flow access to the garden come rain or shine we believe there is no such inappropriate weather only inappropriate clothing, which is why we encourage all parents to provide suitable clothing for all weather. Our curiosity approach runs throughout the room with open ended objects readily available to explore. These enabling facilities have been specially planned and designed for the children within this age group to ensure that they are supported in reaching their full potential through the opportunities available.
The routine of the day is different each day, depending on the children’s interests and ambitions. The vast majority of the day is free flow play however in the summer months we make more of circle and group times to help prepare children for school routines if they wish to join in. The environment is set up in a way which enables children to continue having ownership throughout the day, with resources being provided in a way which is easily accessible, enabling children to pursue their ideas.
Staff ensure that all areas of learning and development are interwoven within the activities taking place so that children become confident and capable learners, who make progress across a broad range of curriculum areas.
We have a strong passion for learning outdoors and have free flow to the garden on a daily basis. This provides children with the opportunity to learn in different environments and engages their learning. Our natural area with trees wooden seating and yes a bug garden provoke their interests in our natural world. Walks to the nearby woods are a regular occurrence which develop further children’s interest in the outside world.
Following access to the wide range of opportunities provided within Pre-School, combined with working closely with schools, we hope that children leave our Pre-School with the best possible start for the next part of their educational journey at school. We know that this is the biggest transition for many children following starting nursery, it can also be a stressful or anxious time for Parents and Carers. We implement strategies to support this transition such as individual parents meetings, visits from local Teachers and work closely with the children to promote the idea of their next steps in their journey.
